What is recycled down?
Recycled down is reclaimed down from pre-used apparel and bedding. It’s carefully cleaned, sterilized and processed for new use. This reduces the need for new material, utilizes waste by giving it a new life, and reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills.
Equal in quality and performance to virgin down, recycled down is kinder to animals by reducing the demand for new feathers from ducks and geese. Recycled down delivers insulating properties consistent with virgin down, and it is as warm, lightweight and compressible. Everything you expect from a down product is what you can expect from recycled down.

Why use recycled down?
Environmental, ethical and performance benefits come from using recycled down. Which is exactly what we look for to use in our Tellus products. It keeps old jackets, bedding and pillows out of landfills and reduces demand for animal resources avoiding animal welfare concerns. It uses less water energy to produce and overall has a lower environmental impact.
Recycled down has a smaller carbon footprint because it minimizes emissions associated with reclamation, manufacturing and transport processes. Even though it’s a reused material, recycle down maintains the same insulating properties of virgin down without sacrificing performance. All of these factors influenced our decision to use recycled down in Tellus jackets and outerwear.
